God of War:3
The good:
-The most amazing visuals we've ever seen in a console game thus far.  Everything about the visuals is done fucking great.  The way the camera is handled throughout the game is epic, it immerses you completely, compliments the scale of the game perfectly, and it's truely cinematic.  There's parts in the game where it was presented so flawlessly I forgot I was PLAYING.  I could go on and on about the visuals and graphics, but you really need to experience them for yourselves to get it.

-Combat, while not revamped, is IMMENSELY more fun.  I'll admit the only weapons actually useful are the Cestus(though they forced that) and the Blades of Exile, but the other 2 weapons you get are fun as all shit to use.  Kratos can switch mid-fight between weapons seamlessly, and pull himself to enemies and stun anyone around the enemy with a new grab attack, and the actually useful items makes 150+ combos come more than you'd expect.

-The quicktime events are also handled much better. You don't have to take your eyes off the action to do them, since each button you press corresponds with where they are on the controller. So if you see a flash on the top of the screen, hit triangle, on the bottom, x, etc...so I was a fan of that.

-Boss fights are awesome as hell, especially the fights with Hades and Zeus, and the other fights are just as great.  I gotta agree with most other reviewers and wish we could've gotten more Titan action, but we find out why that is pretty early on in the game.

The bad:
-The platforming really isn't the best part of the game.  The fixed camera angle SOMETIMES confuses you as to where you need to swing, and as people have found out...there's enough times where Kratos forgets to double jump or use his wings and he'll just fall straight down.

-No free camera is a bit of a bummer, because the environments are amazing.  You can take in some of the sights at certain points with a free camera, but those aren't too often.

The ugly:
-Rock Band of War.

So yea, this is pretty much the reason anyone owns a PS3, and so far the only game, IMO of course, to finally give a truely next-gen experience.  They really knocked it outta the park with this one.  Only thing I can see some people questioning would be the ending.  I'm gonna let it marinate for a bit, but I can see people not being too happy with it.

Now for spoilers:
-The Claws of Hades once fully upgraded are way too fun.  Having souls attacking your enemies and summoning Undead makes for some awesome chaos.

-They weren't kidding with Helios' beheading being just a taste, some of the kills are goddamn BRUTAL.  Poseidon's death was awesome, but goddamn Hercules and Hermes got it the worst.  YOU LITERALLY PUNCH OFF HERCULESE'S FACE OFF. RIGHT OFF!!111!!  The beating you can give Zeus at the end, while not too bad by GoW standards, is brutal in it's own right that you can literally just keep punching away at his face as long as you'd like.

-I didn't really care too much for how Kratos took to Pandora, especially with what happened with him and his daughter in the Chains of Olympus.

God of War would be the only reason I would buy a PS3. And if I didn't play so many different games on my 360, I might have more than one console. But I'll just have to miss out for now. But I tell you, if for some reason I ever get my hands on a PS3, then The God of War stuff is the first game I'm buying.

I'm not quite getting the whole Rock Band of War comment. Too much rawk music? Bad soundtrack?

MINOR SPOILER

One of the puzzles in the game is a mini-Rock Band like game.  It's so bad.

I started out playing it last night and so far it is pretty great but did you notice that Kratos seems to attack/move slower in this one Spliff? For some reason it just seems like theres a slight delay between button press and action. Maybe my timing is just off but it feels slower than the last two.

The only time he wasn't responsive to me was when he hated to double jump.  Maybe your controller is going out?

Castle Crashers ... 9/10 ... A delightful hack 'n slash diversion game, that happens to be deep for it's size. There's a million unlockable characters and weapons it seems like. But it's just good fun. It's well designed. Well balanced (except for the stupid beach ball "boss" battle). But if you get a chance to play it, I recommend it, it's quite a bit of fun.

Mass Effect ... 9/10 ... Yes I know. I'm behind. Way behind. Just come over and see the ever growing stack of games and you'll see. You'll also see why I only have one console. LOL.

Anyway, yes, fantastic game. Fantastic story. I throroughly enjoyed the ride. And will be starting my second playthrough tonight. There's not a lot I can really say about it that most of you that have played it already don't already know. It's a well balanced game. But honestly you play this one for the story, and it has a fantastic story.

The only reason it gets a 9 and not a 10, are just a couple of minor things. The most offending error being that I was cheated out of my Krogan ally achievement. I clearly completed the vast majority of the game with Wrex (who is an awesome ally by the way), I just didn't take him on Noveria and that's why I was screwed out of the achievement. Which those achievements bothered me in the first place, because then if you want those particular achievements then you're hamstrung into playing the game with specific party members and you really can't experiment with other party memebers. Of course you can, but it comes down to, do you want the points or to experiment.

The other minor offenders, 1) Pinnacle Station, it's cool, but my beef lies with the time trial missions. For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to beat the top scores ... I can't even get near them. Considering that third place is like 2 minutes ... I can beat that but not 1:20 ... they seem a little arbitrary to me. And if anyone has any tips, cause I've tried everything, and just decided to stop because it was ruining my fun.

The second thing, while I nerdily love exploring the solar system and planets, driving around on the planets felt like a chore. Especially because so many of them felt cut and paste over to the next one, and there were WAAAAAY too many rock walls that tricked you into thinking you could drive over them when you couldn't.

Other than that. Fantastic game.

Heavy Rain 10/10

Finished this the other day and I think it may contend with ME2 as far as Game of the Year goes. Its not a game for everyone but it was a welcome change of pace.

God of War 3 8/10

Ehhh, I like it, I guess, but not as much as everyone else seems to. They took everything that was great about the first two and turned everything up, which is no problem at all. My problem lays in the fact that I don't think the story's particularly compelling and I don't (and never have) think Kratos is a terribly deep or interesting character. Yes, I say this in light of both Heavy Rain and Mass Effect 2, which should be the standards in gaming for character development in story. Eat me.

*tastes Xentih* ... eh, you're a little gamey, but alright.

I'm on my second playthrough of Mass Effect, and did anyone else who played the game, feel that it's a tad stingy with the renegade points?

Damnation ... Garbage/10 ... I mostly picked up this game because it had some interesting designs that I wanted to check out. But that was about it. Poorly balanced game play, with poorly implemented platforming, and poor animation and dialogue. The game is just down right easy, even on hardcore, probably in apology to the crappy platforming. Which, a lot of forums complained about not being able to easily find their way from point A to point B, which I had no trouble doing. (HINT: When the AI feels like working, just do what the AI does.) ... Sadly, I quit at the final boss fight, because here they finally decided to implement some challenge however, the challenge they implemented was of the trial and error until you get it perfect kind. And while I don't mind trial and error gameplay per se, I can't stand it when it's implemented to the point that you have to play one segment for more than an hour just to beat it. You basically have to platform while giant mech is shooting at you. Does the AI help to distract it. Not at all. So I gave the game a middle finger to save my sanity.

Red Dead Redemption:  I miss when I could buy a console game and just play it.  Now consoles are like computers, and you have to spend $60 on a game and then wait indefinitely for it to be patched to work.  At least on a PC I could work on the game myself.

While I highly enjoy console games, the allowed problem rate for games because of patching and current broadband speeds is a problem. It's even a problem for PC gamers too, unless you know how to program.

Legendary ... 5.5/10 ... A mediocre FPS with extremely loose controls and buggy poorly balanced gameplay. Not to mention an extremely weak story and the game can be completed in a few hours. I picked up the game because of the subject matter, but the FPS vs. melee enemy gameplay is just not very good. And the game ranges from dumbly easy at times to absurd, no it's not hard, but when you hit the Minotaur and Griffon bosses, it's an exercise in frustration because these enemies (that aren't set up as bosses btw), take an ABSURD amount of damage, before going down. And apparently telekenetic damaging powers, because you'll be sure you're out of the way, yet some how you get hit. That or in the frenzied running around and dodging you'll get stuck in a corner somehow. Not to mention the fact that the sprint button is finicky on when it wants to work. Pass on this game.

Beatles: Rock Band ... 8/10 ... If you're not a Beatles fan, then you won't care if this game exists or not. If you're a casual Beatles fan or just curious about their history and music, then you'll enjoy it. If you're a hardcore Beatles fan, then you may enjoy the game but be aggravated at some the omissions from the on disc selection. You can download some of those missing songs, but for the most part DLC almost a year later for this game is almost non-existant. But that can be blamed on the sheer glut of games that appear on consoles anyway. There's simply too much to play out there to really take DLC for ANY game seriously if you ask me.

But back to Beatles: Rock Band. It's fun. Great music. Yet shorter than it should be.
